This is also the saga of independent India’s struggle for technological self-sufficiency and defensive autonomy-a story as much about politics, domestic and international, as it is about science. ![]() This is the story of Kalam’s rise from obscurity and his personal and professional struggles, as well as the story of Agni, Prithvi, Akash, Trishul and Nag-missiles that have become household names in India and that have raised the nation to the level of a missile power of international reckoning. As chief of the country’s defence research and development programme, Kalam demonstrated the great potential for dynamism and innovation that existed in seemingly moribund research establishments. ![]() ![]() after the Table of Contents and the Letter from the Editor, that's me, We have possibly, to me that is, an amazing introduction that was written up from Mike Howlett to get this book started. This Amazing cover art is done by none other than Doug Randazzo! I used a nice thick white cardstock cover and the interiors were done in a cream color to give a "pulp" look. Although they taught me some basics, The book came out pretty good, yet raw, sure there was line spacing and stuff I could have fixed and many other things and that was my fault for not letting the little lady help teach me fully, but on the other hand, I can say I did it to see what it was like! Either way, it was a fun #1 and a good start! Now a bit about the book and its contents. ![]() ![]() Parks reimagines Lincoln’s legacy through a black man in whiteface who remains long after the historical Lincoln’s death to sit and accept endless reiterations of enacted violence and hatred on his behalf. But the simplified and romantic depiction of Abraham Lincoln as the Great Emancipator obscures the history of the real man. ![]() ![]() Abraham Lincoln represents a mythological figure in the national imaginary of American, and particularly African American history. Parks’s signature style involves rhythmic dialogue and heightened dialect, which is less overt in Topdog/Underdog than some of her more esoteric works but still evident in its language structure and unique use of punctuation. Topdog/Underdog shows how history, whether personal, familial, or cultural, shapes the present. ![]() The final scene ends with Booth cradling his brother’s body and screaming. At the end of the play, Booth lives up to his name when, after Lincoln wins his inheritance in a round of three-card monte, Booth shoots Lincoln from behind and kills him. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The story interacts and provides you with a perfect adventure to make all the ends meet. So, you know how AQ ended, that cliffhanger was a jaw-dropping one, right? I was so pleased I had American Prince already queued up and ready to go. Do they hear themselves different in their heads then when they speak out load? I never speed up narration but about 1/2 way thorough I finally sped this one up and I'll admit it helped a lot for me. Guy Locke isn't one of my favorite narrators and I don't understand why the inner monologue for the men is in a different voice than when they speak. The narration was not great either which didn't help. I am finishing the series in hopes that the author brings this all together but I'm just not sure it was for me. The political part of this book was non-existence, scenes that were a very big deal were brushed off and the sex some times felt like it was thrown into random spots just because. I think my biggest issue is all the things that didn't even matter to the story and should have. I spent a lot of time pausing and walking away in frustration while listening. The story line was intriguing but maybe I had way to high of expectations. I really wanted to love this series but sadly I do not. The style and the way it jumps around skipping over so many details was a big issue for me. ![]() |
